Competition terrain
Competition area is diandrous. Velocity of propagation at the first two stages can change very much. There are no big height differences. The longest classes use great surface rock (grey on the map) areas.

Terrain at the 3rd, 4th and 5th stages is culture landscape. The longest classes use also an area with great surface rock areas. Height differences are bigger than at the first two stages and terrain is more variable. Somewhere terrain can be very hard to go, because description is exact. There are a lot of stones in the terrain, that’s why the smallest stones aren’t in the maps. There are also variable forests, fellings, swamps and lakes between surface rock areas. The longest classes use also an area, where is just few footpaths.

More exact descriptions you can find here.

Maps and control descriptions
All maps are six-coloured orienteering maps from June 2007. The scale is 1:10 000 and the contour interval is 2,5meters. Maps are in a plastic folder. The control descriptions are printed in the maps, but there are also separate control descriptions available at the starts. Competitors may keep their maps after finishing their course. Fair play is to be remembered! Showing one’s map to the other competitors preparing for their courses is strictly forbidden. Older maps of the Fin5 competition terrain will be displayed in the competition centre until the first start on the stage.

Start numbers
Competitors use the same start number throughout the week. The number will be shown on the start list. The competitor will take his number from a rack situated by the information pole in the competition centre. On the start number there are printed the Fin5 logo and the sponsor’s logo along with the starting number. As well as there is a sticker on the start number. The sticker includes information about the competitor (name, club, start times and distances (km) to starting places). The number is not to be folded. When obtaining a new number to replace a lost or a torn number, the cost is 3 € and is paid at the Info-desk. When enrolling at an open course, the runner is given a start number from the info. In chase starts for elite-classes extra numbers (1 – 10) will be used for the top ten. They are given out on Friday’s starts and fastened below the regular start numbers. After this week competitors can keep their start numbers as a memory.

Emit-cards
The Electronic Emit punching system is used in all classes. The competitor has to make sure that he has a functioning Emit-card and that his card number corresponds with the number on the start list. Changes in the Emit-card numbers have to be made at the Info-desk at the Event Centre or at the competition centre Info. Rented cards can be picked up in advance (on Saturday 14.7) at the Info-desk in the Fin5 Event Centre, or on competition days(15.-20.7) at the Info-desk in the competition centre. The cards rented for one day must be returned right after the course at the Info-desk in the competition centre. The cards rented for the whole week must be returned at the finish of the 5th stage. The rent is 10 € per week or 3 € per day. The rent must have been paid when the card is picked up. 75 € will be charged for a lost Emit-card.

The renting of an Emit-card:
At the Info-desk there is a list of those competitors, who have not given an Emit-card number in advance. The competitor will give their name and they will be given an Emit-card. They will give form and pay the rent of the card. Not markings are allowed to be made in the card, not any kind of stickers put into it!

NB! If a competitor has changed their Emit-card after the registration (i.e. the number does not match the one in the start list), this has to be reported in the info at the competition centre before the start.

The Emit-card can be tested at the model control by the information pole. When punching, the blinking light indicates that the card functions. There are different instructions for the open courses.
